2020 CSA Week 17

Hi Everyone,
We're at the penultimate week of the CSA, and it's probably a good thing, since we had unseasonably early hard frosts that decisively shut down the summer crops. Even the tomatoes and peppers that are in the greenhouses were hit, and it has to get very cold for that to happen. But it's helping us shift our sights to the fall jobs that are so important to get done before the cold weather actually sets in. This week has been quite pleasant, actually, which meant that we were able to pick all of the dry beans that Sue and Claude sell (and eat) over the winter. We're planning on getting the winter squash all harvested and in under cover, and we'll be digging the bulk of the potatoes soon. It's a great feeling to have all this wonderful food stored up and ready to brighten the winter months to come!

In Your Bag:
Acorn Squash
White Potatoes
Yellow Onions
Leeks
Sweet Peppers
Jalapeno Peppers
Arugula

Green Cabbage (Large Shares Only)

Alrighty- here are some recipes
1) Potato, Onion, Arugula and Brie Pizza
A different way to dress your fall pizza! This also calls for roasted red peppers, which would be great to do with the sweet peppers in your bag this week.
Potatoes and Leeks are a perfect pair, and they make a great soup, of course, but they are also amazing in a gratin! Wonderful for a chilly night, this is a satisfying meal or side dish.
3) Baked Acorn Squash with Butter and Maple Syrup
Acorn Squash is a classic fall treat, and it pairs beautifully with the flavors of brown sugar or maple syrup. Acorn squash will last a month or so, so no rush to consume it.
4) Jalapeno Garlic Crispy Potatoes
I love potatoes and hot peppers, and this looks like a great way to combine them! The recipe calls for red-skin potatoes, but any variety will do, and the white ones from this week are a solid choice.
Alright everyone, have a great week! Best,
